6/11 – Catonsville – Historical Quaker Portrayed at Banneker Museum’s Colonial Market Fair

Virginia Schurman of Gunpowder Meeting will be portraying Martha Ellicott Tyson at the Banneker Museum in Oella, near Catonsville.  Her performance will be part of the museum’s anniversary celebration which will take the form of a Colonial Market Fair.  The fair will be a living history event with merchants, artisans, surveyors, games, food and the Banneker’s log cabin.  More information on the fair is available at http://catonsville.patch.com/events/benjamin-banneker-museum-anniversary-celebration-colonial-market-fair .

 

 

 

 

 

Virginia will be portraying Martha Ellicott Tyson at 11:00 to 11:30 and 2-2:30. Tyson was a Baltimore Yearly Meeting Friend, whose family were friends of Benjamin Banneker and encouraged him in their mutual interests in mathematics, astronomy, almanac writing, and the surveying of Washington DC.

The fair is this Saturday, June 11, from 10- 4 at the Benjamin Banneker Museum, 300 Oella Ave, Baltimore 21228. (410) 887-1081. Free admission, children’s activities.

Directions: From I-695, take exit 13 West (Frederick Road, MD 144) for approximately 2 ½ miles to Oella Avenue.
Turn right on to Oella Avenue, continue North for about ¼ mile.
The Park and Museum entrance will be on your left.
