Rain Location for Worship
(To Be Decided)

The Meeting for Worship is organized by Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting –a coalition of 9 Friends (Quaker) Meetings in Central and Southern Maryland, including Patuxent Friends Meeting which is adjacent to the proposed Cove Point Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Facility. Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting has reached unity that the expansion of the Cove Point LNG facility must be stopped. See minute: http://chesapeake.bym-rsf.net/?p=469

Rally & March: 1:00 to 4:00

(Thousands are expected at this event organized by Chesapeake Climate Action Network – http://chesapeakeclimate.org/)

Location: West of the Capitol Reflecting Pool

(bordered by 3rd St and between Pennsylvania Ave. NW and Maryland Ave. SW)

We’ll come together to send a decisive message to President Obama and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission: Say “no!” to fracked gas exports at Cove Point and nationwide. The Cove Point plant poses serious safety risks to the Lusby, Maryland community, will result in increased demand for fracked gas from West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, significantly increase air pollution and worsen climate change.

The proposed expansion of the Cove Point natural gas facility in Calvert County to include a natural gas liquefaction plant and export terminal would have major detrimental environmental consequences if approved and built.   Continue reading

Fracking & Cove Point:  A Spiritual Concern?

Karie Firoozmand, Stony Run Friends Meeting
Anne Lusby Harrison, Patuxent Friends Meeting

About the Program

The proposed expansion of the Cove Point Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal in Lusby, Maryland has emerged as a major environmental concern for the State of Maryland. We will show a brief film which reviews the Cove Point project followed by a panel discussion. Karie Firoozmand has been raising up issues of environmental stewardship and justice among Friends, trying to discover where the seeds of injustice can be replaced with those of right relationship. Anne Lusby Harrison is clerk of the Peace and Social Concerns Committee for Patuxent Meeting which is located in Lusby near the Cove Point facility and will speak about the Calvert County responses to the project.

The speakers provided a variety of resources and handouts, including:
